Sensex trades in green; Metal stocks up 2.86% Analysis for Dec 29, 2014

The Indian benchmark index Sensex was trading in green in the afternoon session led by gains in Metal Index followed by Realty, Auto, power and Oil & Gas indices. Sesa Sterlite, Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Coal India, Tata Motors were among the notable gainers. Metal shares firmed up on hopes that the government may take the ordinance route to pave the way for auction of iron ore and other minerals.

At 1:36 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex at 27433.64 up by 191.86 points or by 0.7 % and then NSE Nifty was at 8257.3 up by 56.6 points or by 0.69 %.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2909, shares advanced were 1700 while 1081 shares declined and 128 were unchanged.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10204.63 up by 88.78 points or by 0.88 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10972.66 up by 77.77 points or by 0.71 %.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 216.35,+4.32%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 157.50,+3.48%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 408.00,+2.47%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 386.30,+2.24%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 495.20,+2.09%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 493.40,-0.33%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1253.15,-0.14%), State Bank of India (Rs. 307.30,-0.11%), among others.

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, BSE Metal index was at 10864.32 up by 301.78 points or by 2.86%. Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 216.35,+4.32%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd.
