Sensex Ends Flat on First Trading Day of 2015
The Sensex and the Nifty ended the day absolutely flat in trade after trading in negative for most of the day. The Sensex ended the day with gains of 8 points, while the Nifty ended the day with gains of 1 point.

HDFC and NTPC were the top losers from the Sensex, while stocks like Sesa Sterlite gained ground in trade.
Shares of auto companies which reported vehicle sales for the month of December reacted to numbers. Mahindra and Maruti both ended the day flat in trade.
Mid cap stocks saw buying interest in trade with Voltas, Jain Irrigation and Reliance Capital among the gainers in trade.
Metal stocks were the stars in trade with Jindal Steel surging a huge 4 per cent, while Tata Steel was also among the gainers.
Meanwhile, European markets remained closed and most of the Asian markets were shut for trade.
