Post Session- Sensex snaps 6-day winning streak Analysis for Jan 05, 2015

The key domestic benchmarks ended lower today as the Sensex, which snapped a six-day winning streak shed 45 points led by losses in Teck and IT stocks amid profit booking ahead of Infosys" results this Friday. Caution ahead of the services PMI data for India due on Tuesday also weighed on sentiment. However, the government"s commitment to undertake bold banking sector reforms curbed losses in the Sensex. A weak finish in most Asian markets amid fears of a Greek exit from the Euro area as the country heads to polls this month also weighed on sentiment. While China"s Shanghai Composite hit five-year highs on optimism over further government measures to boost economic growth, Hang Seng and Japan"s Nikkei 225 closed lower on Monday amid uncertainty surrounding Greece"s fate in the Euro.

The BSE SENSEX closed at 27,842.32, down by 45.58 points or by 0.16 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8,378.4, down by -17.05 points or by 0.2 per cent.The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28,064.49 and intraday low of 27,786.85. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8,445.6 and intraday low of 8,363.9.

Meanwhile, the BSE MIDCAP closed at 10,547.17, up by 16.97 points or by 0.16 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP ended at 11,320.21, up by 12.06 points or by 0.11 per cent.

On the Sectoral front, Teck and IT shed 1.07 per cent and 1.01 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3245, shares advanced were 1617 while 1490 shares declined and 138 were unchanged.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3146.80,-2.19%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 357.20,-2.10%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 157.10,-1.87%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1156.65,-1.29%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2537.90,-1.28%), among others.
