Markets remain firm; Wipro, Gail top gainers Analysis for Jan 19, 2015

Despite weak cues from the other Asian peers, the key domestic benchmark indices continued the gaining momentum during noon trading session. The gains on the D-street was primarily attributed to the strong quarterly numbers posted by the companies including Wipro and Reliance that contributed over 50 points to the rise on the 30-share Sensex. Further, some support also came in from reports that the FDI for April-November period of the ongoing fiscal, grew by 22 per cent to USD 18.88 billion as against USD 15.45 billion in the same period a fiscal before. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors were net buyers in Indian equities worth Rs 1,100 crore on January 16, 2015, as per provisional stock exchange data. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed, weighed down by over 8 per cent losses (intraday) in Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index, after regulators launched a wide-ranging crackdown on brokerages for rule violations of margin trading business, which has fuelled an extended market rally.

At 1:23PM BSE SENSEX was at 28295.11, up by 173.22 points or by 0.62 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8549.65, up by 35.85 points or by 0.42 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10702.68, up by 69.57 points or by 0.65 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11405.57, up by 95.64 points or by 0.85 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28334.06 and an intraday low of 28197.36, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8570.95 and an intraday low of 8531.5.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 589.90,+6.24%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 442.80,+4.30%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 528.50,+2.64%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 279.30,+1.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 348.80,+1.82%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 926.85,-1.66%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2856.60,-1.39%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2508.00,-0.94%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1183.00,-0.86%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2100.15,-0.66%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 10177.68 up by 253.07 points or by 2.55%. Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 163.80,+15.47%), Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 2180.00,+8.44%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 250.55,+7.76%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 685.00,+3.21%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 361.30,+1.77%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1622.65 down by 2.78 points or by 0.17%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 79.40,-1.24%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 144.60,-1.03%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 495.00,-0.76%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 71.70,-0.76%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 503.00,-0.53%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2987 shares traded, 1732 shares advanced, 1148 shares declined while 107 remained unchanged.
