Markets remain rangebound ahead of Budget session Analysis for Feb 23, 2015

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade in a tight range with positive bias during the morning session of trade, ahead of the Budget session which will commence today with the address of President of India Pranab Mukherjee to the members of both the Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall of Parliament. The 30-share benchmark index was up by 92 points, while the NSE Nifty was marginally up by 8 points, hovering around 8840. On the global front, Asian shares got off to a dreary start on Monday as many countries in the region returned from Lunar New Year holidays, with sentiment supported by relief that Greece reached a deal to avert an immediate fiscal crisis.

At 10:25AM BSE SENSEX was at 29323.81, up by 92.4 points or by 0.32 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8842.2, up by 8.6 points or by 0.1 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10888.68, up by 52.5 points or by 0.48 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11507.67, up by 81.43 points or by 0.71 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29362.96 and an intraday low of 29250.26, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8869 and an intraday low of 8838.9.The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 158.80,+1.53%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 220.60,+1.47%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1695.00,+1.03%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 681.00,+0.96%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 333.50,+0.71%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 403.45,-1.36%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 371.00,-0.99%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2188.20,-0.96%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2635.40,-0.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 347.00,-0.79%), among others.Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 17474.71 up by 125.92 points or by 0.73%. Alstom India Ltd. (Rs. 762.95,+2.40%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 26.15,+2.15%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 1096.00,+1.59%), Punj Lloyd Ltd. (Rs. 37.25,+1.36%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 3865.00,+1.15%),.On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1760.86 down by -4.32 points or by -0.24%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 148.00,-2.18%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 116.15,-1.73%), D B Realty Ltd. (Rs. 84.20,-1.46%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 275.00,-1.27%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 83.30,-1.13%),. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2268 shares traded, 1275 shares advanced, 888 shares declined while 105 remained unchanged.
