Markets ended higher, amid a choppy trading session, led by infrastructure stocks and private lenders even as ITC extended losses in wake of the steep excise duty hike on cigarettes. On the macroeconomic front, the HSBC Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, compiled by Markit fell for the second consecutive month, to 51.2 in February from 52.9 in January implying that manufacturing activity expanded at its slowest pace in five months in February on slowdown in new orders dragging overall output. On the global front, Asian markets ended mostly in green on Monday, as China"s weekend interest rate cut partially offset soft US data. Activity in China"s factory sector edged up to a seven-month high in February but export orders shrank and deflationary pressures persisted, a private business survey showed, adding to the view that yet more interest rate cuts will be needed. A survey showed the HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers" Index (PMI) climbed to 50.7 in February - the strongest level since July - from 49.7 in January, as overall new orders picked up.
