Nifty ends at record closing high; Reliance, TCS top gainers Analysis for Mar 03, 2015

The key domestic benchmark indices closed higher for third straight session with Nifty striking 9,000 mark in intra-day trades. Gains were led by sustained buying in IT and pharma shares with index heavyweight Reliance Industries contributing the most after CLSA said that the company"s refining margins may rise to a six-year high. On the global front, US markets closed higher, Asian peers remained mixed while European benchmarks were trading in positive. Back home, growth in eight core industries, which contribute 38 per cent to IIP, has slowed down to 1.8 per cent in January, versus 3.7 per cent in January 2014 and 2.4 per cent in December 2014. The growth is lowest in last 13 months, due to negative expansion in crude oil and natural gas. Also, India"s fiscal deficit has risen to Rs 5.68 lakh crore for first 10 month (April-January period) as against the annual budget estimate of Rs 5.31 lakh crore. It exceeds budget estimates by 107 per cent. The deficit was 98.2 per cent during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The BSE SENSEX closed at 29593.73 up by 134.59 points or by 0.46 per cent, while NSE Nifty was at 8996.25, up by 39.5 points or by 0.44 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 11081.83, up by 128.9 points or by 1.18 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11528.89 up by 158.09 points or by 1.39 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29636.86 and an intraday low of 29364.87, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 9008.4 and an intraday low of 8925.55.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 901.65,+4.39%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2774.70,+3.92%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 734.35,+2.66%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2120.00,+2.18%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 942.40,+2.01%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 379.35,-3.89%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1235.85,-3.26%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 632.85,-2.34%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 574.60,-1.63%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 158.40,-0.72%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 9920.66 up by 214.17 points or by 2.21%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 901.65,+4.39%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 484.65,+1.76%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 355.80,+1.54%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 656.85,+0.41%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 320.90,+0.19%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Auto index was at 19753.13 down by -171.82 points or by -0.86%. Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 15891.30,-3.78%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1235.85,-3.26%), Tata Motors Ltd.
