Post-Session: Sensex rebounds; ends 78 points higher Analysis for Mar 05, 2015

The Indian benchmarks rebounded in the last hour of trading and closed on bullish note as gains in defensive sectors such as pharma and FMCG coupled with HDFC group shares helped offset losses in IT majors and select Index heavyweights. BSE healthcare index was the top sectoral gainer up 2.54 per cent followed by FMCG among others. The shares of metal companies declined across the bourses after China, the world's largest consumer of metals, lowered its economic growth forecast for the current year. Investors remain cautious ahead of the US job data, due tomorrow amid a long weekend. The markets are closed on Friday for Holi, followed by the regular weekend holidays. The BSE SENSEX closed at 29448.95 up by 68.22 points or by 0.23 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8937.75 up by 15.1 points or by 0.17 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 11045.08 up by 80.81 points or by 0.74 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 11456.85 up by 75.2 points or by 0.66 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1037.35,+3.24 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 939.00,+2.49 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1085.05,+1.87 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 737.85,+1.81 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1389.05,+1.75 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 147.90,-3.36 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 363.95,-2.19 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2696.35,-1.72 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 343.40,-1.28 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 210.10,-1.08 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1038.75,+3.22 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1838.15,+2.85 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 939.70,+2.58 per cent), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 184.05,+2.02 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1394.80,+1.98 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 127.35,-3.96 per cent), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 3189.55,-3.65 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 148.10,-3.27 per cent), Grasim Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3784.70,-2.53 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 363.95,-2.05 per cent), among others.

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, healthcare index was leading the rise and closed at 16991.33 up by 421.58 points or by 2.54 per cent. Strides Arcolab Ltd. (Rs. 1032.60,+9.38 per cent), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 842.00,+5.42 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 3272.25,+3.99 per cent), Ipca Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 708.90,+3.96 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1037.35,+3.24 per cent),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3133 , shares advanced were 1503 while 1505 shares declined and 125 were unchanged
