Post-Session: Sensex ends 66 points lower Analysis for Mar 16, 2015

The Indian benchmarks closed on dull note in the midst of a choppy trading session as institutional investors booked profits on caution ahead of the two-day US Federal Reserve policy meet which begins tomorrow while further contraction in February WPI data weighed on investor sentiment. Oil prices fell on Monday, with U.S. crude dropping nearly 3 percent to a six-year low as the dollar hit fresh highs and spare oil storage capacity runs low around the world. The BSE SENSEX closed at 28437.71 down by -65.59 points or by -0.23 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8633.15 down by -14.6 points or by -0.17 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10758.4 down by -36.48 points or by -0.34 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 11111.82 down by -97.74 points or by -0.87 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2267.00,+2.28 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1028.20,+1.59 per cent), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 80.95,+1.57 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 258.30,+1.45 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 646.40,+1.40 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 185.50,-5.16 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 126.90,-3.64 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 389.15,-2.80 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 155.80,-2.35 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3313.95,-1.77 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were DLF Ltd. (Rs. 164.30,+4.38 per cent), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 831.85,+2.90 per cent), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 353.75,+2.77 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 190.45,+2.23 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 2057.00,+2.21 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 185.50,-5.31 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 126.80,-3.72 per cent), Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 218.00,-3.39 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 388.40,-2.96 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 155.85,-2.26 per cent), among others

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, capital goods index was leading the rise and closed at 9565.71 down by -144.59 points or by -1.49 per cent. Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 185.50,-5.16 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 126.90,-3.64 per cent), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 920.50,-2.27 per cent), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 128.35,-2.25 per cent), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 46.65,-1.17 per cent)

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3181 , shares advanced were 1089 while 1956 shares declined and 136 were unchanged
