Post-Session: Sensex ends 208 points lower Analysis for Mar 20, 2015

The Indian benchmarks closed on bearish note as investors booked profits at higher levels with ICICI Bank and FMCG majors leading the decline. Meanwhile, according to global rating agency Fitch India"s gross domestic product (GDP) to grow at 8.0 per cent in 2015-16 and 8.3 per cent in the next fiscal, based on the new data series. The forecasts according to earlier series were 6.5 per cent and 6.8 per cent, respectively. NTPC dropped 6.5%. The stock was quoted ex-bonus today. As per scheme of arrangement, the existing shareholders will get bonus debentures of face value of Rs 12.50 each against each equity shares of Rs 10 held by its members. The BSE SENSEX closed at 28261.08 down by -208.59 points or by -0.73 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8570.9 down by -63.75 points or by -0.74 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10625.28 down by -160.89 points or by -1.49 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 10859.75 down by -238.03 points or by -2.14 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 651.85,+2.92 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2258.95,+1.30 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 368.10,+0.75 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2609.65,+0.59 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1055.20,+0.34 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 145.50,-6.25 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 245.75,-3.68 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 319.10,-3.36 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 377.15,-3.31 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1173.00,-2.70 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 652.65,+2.77 per cent), Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 225.40,+1.44 per cent), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 148.20,+1.44 per cent), Ambuja Cements Ltd. (Rs. 255.20,+1.39 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2257.45,+1.21 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 145.50,-5.98 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 164.55,-5.38 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 245.75,-3.85 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 318.60,-3.51 per cent), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 727.05,-3.50 per cent), among others

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, realty index was leading the decline and closed at 1677.74 down by -65.25 points or by -3.74 per cent. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 99.30,-8.48 per cent), Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 17.90,-7.01 per cent), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 65.55,-6.49 per cent), National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 958.90,-3.89 per cent), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 268.75,-3.54 per cent)

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3134 , shares advanced were 814 while 2199 shares declined and 121 were unchanged.
