Sensex marginally up; BHEL, RIL under pressure Analysis for Mar 23, 2015

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade marginally up amid range-bound during the noon trading session. The 30-share benchmark index was up by 38 points as the gains in pharmaceuticals and select auto stocks have been capped by the losses in select index heavyweights like Infosys and Reliance Industries. Meanwhile some support was observed with the strength in rupee which was trading up on increased selling of the American currency by exporters. Also, a report on currency strategy has said that the US dollar rally is nearing its end, adding that India, Indonesia and Korea shares stand to gain from the halt in dollar rally. Further, the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 354.59 crore on Friday, 20 March 2015, as per provisional data.

At 13:20PM BSE SENSEX was at 28299.82, up by 38.74 points or by 0.14 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8578.05, up by 7.15 points or by 0.08 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10577.51 down by 47.77 points or by 0.45 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10776.42 down by 83.33 points or by 0.77 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28385.14 and an intraday low of 28248.55, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8608.35 and an intraday low of 8559.7.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 135.70,+2.73%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1192.60,+2.11%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.35,+1.96%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 556.00,+1.53%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 382.05,+1.30%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 239.00,-2.75%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 844.55,-1.14%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 364.65,-0.94%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 333.85,-0.74%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 3596.75,-0.69%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Auto index was at 19328.18 up by 129.68 points or by 0.68%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1192.60,+2.11%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 556.00,+1.53%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2037.25,+0.79%), Bharat Forge Ltd. (Rs. 1297.45,+0.76%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2625.05,+0.39%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE_IT index was at 11628.24 down by -71.36 points or by -0.61%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 661.00,-2.57%), MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 1385.00,-1.00%), Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd. (Rs. 3221.00,-0.93%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 972.70,-0.75%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2243.95,-0.66%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2814 shares traded, 963 shares advanced, 1724 shares declined while 127 remained unchanged.
