Post-Session: Sensex closes lower on profit booking Analysis for Mar 25, 2015

The Indian benchmarks ended lower as investors turned cautious and resorted to profit-booking ahead of the March F&O expiry which is due tomorrow. Selling pressure in capital goods, metal, oil and power stocks weighed on the bourses. On the sectoral front, BSE Capital Gods, Metal, Oil & Gas, Power indices are trading lower up to 1.5 per cent. However, BSE Healthcare, FMCG, Consumer Durables indices continue to trade higher up to 1 per cent. Tata Motors has gained ahead of its board meet today for the proposed rights issue to raise up to Rs 7,500 crore and buyback of secured NCDs worth Rs 1,250 crore maturing on March 31, 2016. The BSE SENSEX closed at 28111.83 down by -49.89 points or by -0.18 per cent and then NSE Nifty ended at 8530.8 down by -12.15 points or by -0.14 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10443.19 down by -49.96 points or by -0.48 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP ended at 10579.96 down by -70.97 points or by -0.67 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 541.20,+1.56 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 316.75,+1.51 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 660.40,+1.36 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1053.30,+1.29 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1207.95,+1.21 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 147.25,-3.51 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 380.10,-2.54 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1633.10,-2.31 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 362.30,-2.11 per cent), State Bank of India (Rs. 265.35,-1.87 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1007.15,+3.79 per cent), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 165.05,+3.09 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 541.85,+1.80 per cent), Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 223.00,+1.80 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 316.90,+1.60 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Punjab National Bank (Rs. 155.50,-3.83 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 147.35,-3.50 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 380.20,-2.51 per cent), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 124.30,-2.39 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1632.75,-2.36 per cent), among others

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, capital goods index was leading the decline and closed at 16667.52 down by -279.13 points or by -1.65 per cent. BEML Ltd. (Rs. 1029.80,-2.85 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1633.10,-2.31 per cent), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 1087.05,-2.04 per cent), SKF India Ltd. (Rs. 1395.05,-1.91 per cent), Va Tech Wabag Ltd. (Rs. 1721.85,-1.87 per cent)

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3119 , shares advanced were 1029 while 1943 shares declined and 147 were unchanged.
