Post Session: Sensex, Nifty end flat as investors give thumbs down to RBI policy Analysis for Apr 07, 2015

The Dalal Street ended with a positive bias in the choppy trade on Tuesday as investors sentiment were dented by the RBI monetary stance in its first bi-monthly policy review for 2015-16, which saw rate sensitive stocks skidding on bourses. The smart gain in the metal and power index helped market to pare losses triggered by the RBI Policy review. In line with expectations, the Reserve Bank of India kept key rates unchanged with the policy repo rate left unchanged at 7.5 per cent and the cash reserve ratio (CRR) at 4.0 per cent.

The BSE SENSEX closed at 28516.59 up by 12.13 points or by 0.04 per cent and the NSE Nifty ended flat at 8660.30. In the choppy trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28641.08 and intraday low of 28274.36 and the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8693.6 and intraday low of 8586.85.

On the global front, most of the Asian market ended higher, with China stocks hitting fresh 7-year highs ahead of kick-off of corporate earnings season, while Japan's Nikkei rose on hopes that the US Federal Reserve may delay rates hike after recent macro data.

Meanwhile, the BSE MIDCAP closed at 10950.54 up by 80.72 points or by 0.74 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP ended at 11431.08 up by 131.78 points or by 1.17 per cent.

On the Sectoral front, metal and power index gained 2.2 per cent and 0.93 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2984, shares advanced were 1723 while 1142 shares declined and 119 were unchanged.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 333.60,+4.89%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 197.35,+3.14%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2093.00,+3.03%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 156.00,+2.73%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 409.15,+2.03%), among others.

On the flip side, Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 558.90,-1.69%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1151.95,-1.42%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 560.05,-1.32%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 317.45,-1.20%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2640.00,-1.19%), were among top losers on BSE.
