Post-Session: Sensex ends in red; healthcare stocks down Analysis for Apr 15, 2015

The Indian benchmarks ended lower weighed down by IT majors on concerns that the appreciating rupee could hurt revenues while private banks pared early gains on profit taking in late trades. The Wholesale Price Inflation (WPI) for the month of March has fallen 2.33% compared to the same month last fiscal. Minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha today spoke in favour of full capital account convertibility of the rupee to unleash the true potential of the Indian economy. 10 out of the 12 sectoral indices of BSE ended in red. BSE Auto and Healthcare index were the top losers followed by BSE IT and Capital Goods indices. The BSE SENSEX closed at 28799.69 down by -244.75 points or by -0.84 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 8750.2 down by -83.8 points or by -0.95 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 11070.76 down by -56.66 points or by -0.51 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11901.39 down by -40.64 points or by -0.34 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 207.20,+3.32 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 317.20,+1.76 per cent), State Bank of India (Rs. 290.00,+1.59 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 354.25,+1.23 per cent), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 80.85,+1.19 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 233.55,-3.43 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1209.50,-3.26 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 540.30,-2.81 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 606.60,-2.70 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 551.55,-2.65 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 206.25,+2.84 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 317.15,+1.70 per cent), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 178.50,+1.68 per cent), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 81.20,+1.31 per cent), State Bank of India (Rs. 290.00,+1.29 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 232.40,-4.22 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 944.50,-3.23 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1208.90,-3.12 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1117.30,-2.92 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 540.45,-2.84 per cent), among others

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, healthcare index was leading the decline and closed at 18140.06 down by -285.19 points or by -1.55 per cent. Wockhardt Ltd. (Rs. 1739.50,-6.57 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1118.60,-2.61 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 693.60,-2.39 per cent), Biocon Ltd. (Rs. 478.00,-2.21 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1947.60,-1.68 per cent)

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2987 , shares advanced were 1388 while 1488 shares declined and 111 were unchanged
