Markets extend losses on sustained selling pressure Analysis for Apr 17, 2015

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade lackluster during the late noon trading session in absence of any positive trigger which could lift the markets higher on sustained profit-booking activities by market-participants after disappointing earnings of IT major, TCS. The 30-share benchmark index was down by 155 points, while NSE Nifty fell 58 points weighed down by losses in IT, autos, banks, consumer durable and capital goods stocks. Further, the investors are eying Q4 earnings of Reliance Industries to be released later in the day. Analysts expect the company to post a record fourth quarter net profit as benefiting from refining margins, which will be partially offset by lower petrochemical margins.

At 2:12PM BSE SENSEX was at 28510.5, down by 155.54 points or by 0.54 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8648.65, down by 58.05 points or by 0.67 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10865.01, down by 128.01 points or by 1.16 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11696.83, down by 95.91 points or by 0.81 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28696.19 and an intraday low of 28504.17, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8699.85 and an intraday low of 8635.55.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 350.70,+3.97%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 211.80,+3.77%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 141.50,+3.10%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 235.80,+1.59%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 158.15,+1.25%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2484.30,-3.90%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1055.60,-3.12%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 588.00,-2.22%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 410.00,-1.75%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 542.50,-1.72%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Metal index was at 10196.99 up by 182.43 points or by 1.82%. Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 350.70,+3.97%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 211.80,+3.77%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 78.15,+3.37%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 141.50,+3.10%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 968.40,+3.08%),.

In BSE, BSE_IT index was at 11190.83 down by -206.15 points or by -1.81%. MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 1306.95,-6.06%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2484.30,-3.90%), CMC Ltd. (Rs. 1900.00,-3.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 639.10,-2.43%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 588.00,-2.22%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of 2713 total shares traded, 1197 shares advanced, 1390 shares declined while 126 remained unchanged.
