Sensex Ends Lower; Sun Pharma Falls Again

The Sensex ended the day lower led by selling in stocks like Tata Motors and Sun Pharma. The index closed the day lower even as select Asian markets like the Chinese Shanghai Composite continued to make gains.

Poor cues from European markets were largely responsible for the drop in benchmark indices, with the Sensex losing 155 points to end lower at 27735 points.

Apart from Sun Pharma and L&T index stocks that lost ground were State Bank of India and NTPC. HDFC Bank which reported numbers that meet expectations ended the day flat.

HCL Tech which had fallen sharply following its Q4 results recovered some lost ground in trade today.

Stocks that help support the indices were Tata Steel, Coal India and TCS.

Yes Bank was the top gainer from the Nifty with the stock jumping a huge 5 per cent in trade as there were a series of upgrade for the stock following a good set of results.

Shares in Gammon India jumped by almost 8 per cent after the company said that it planned to raise up to Rs 100 crore Via CCD issue to promoters on preferential basis.

Ramco Systems gained as much as 16 per cent after the company fixed its QIP issue.

Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading with losses worried over the problems in Greece.
