Sensex down 170 points ahead of April F&O expiry Analysis for Apr 30, 2015

Indian markets continued to reel under pressure during the late noon trading session in absence of any buying activity on final session of April F&O series, which dragged both Sensex and Nifty below psychologically crucial 27,000 and 8,200 levels respectively. Selling pressure continued take its toll on lower-than-expected Q4 earnings posted by select blue-chip companies amid weak global cues. Major laggards on the D-street included Bharti Airtel, Coal India, Tata Power, Gail and ITC among others. According to the reports, foreign institutional investors have remained net sellers in equities in the past fortnight, except one on continued worries over minimum alternate tax in addition to disappointing earnings from select large companies.

At 2:19PM BSE SENSEX was at 27056.1, down by 169.83 points or by 0.62 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8183.6, down by 56.15 points or by 0.68 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10404.38 down by 4.38 points or by 0.04 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10925.29 down by 35.23 points or by 0.32 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 27242.05 and an intraday low of 26897.54, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8229.4 and an intraday low of 8144.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 573.00,+3.64%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 210.30,+1.52%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 638.05,+1.38%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 860.90,+1.13%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 307.90,+0.56%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 378.20,-2.40%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 75.50,-2.39%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 363.35,-2.13%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 322.00,-1.89%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 359.50,-1.79%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 10448.21 up by 56.82 points or by 0.55%. Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 233.95,+2.01%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 3783.65,+2.00%), Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 2360.00,+1.88%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 339.30,+1.28%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 235.40,+1.25%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2589 shares traded, 1130 shares advanced, 1351 shares declined while 108 remained unchanged.
