Sensex, Nifty in red; Cipla, Bharti Airtel top losers Analysis for May 05, 2015

Indian markets remained in the negative zone during the noon trading session amid lack of positive triggers. The 30-share benchmark index was down by 137 points, while NSE Nifty edged lower by 22 points. Prominent losers on the D-street were the stocks from Power, Infrastructure and banking counters. In stock-specific activity, Railway stocks were mostly trading positive after reports suggested that Railways have initiated the process for setting up a regulatory body on the lines of telecom and power sector. On the global front, Asian stock markets retreated after the Australian central bank cut interest rates for the second time in four months as the region's growth falters in the face of slowing demand from China.

At 1:27PM BSE SENSEX was at 27353.18, down by 137.41 points or by 0.5 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8309.9 down by 22.05 points or by 0.26 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10565.55, up by 16.13 points or by 0.15 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11160.26, down by 9.39 points or by 0.08 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 27603.71 and an intraday low of 27338.23, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8355.65 and an intraday low of 8299.2.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 221.90,+4.52%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 374.35,+3.61%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 334.55,+2.11%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 135.90,+1.99%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 873.55,+1.44%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 657.50,-2.45%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 383.35,-2.44%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1170.00,-2.44%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.70,-2.40%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 362.25,-2.00%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Metal index was at 10100.88 up by 148.83 points or by 1.5%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 221.90,+4.52%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 180.05,+4.50%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 374.35,+3.61%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 132.75,+2.27%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 135.90,+1.99%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 10507.85 down by -58.71 points or by -0.56%. Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 2333.80,-2.37%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 237.00,-1.64%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 704.70,-1.56%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 351.50,-0.82%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 234.15,-0.47%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2598 shares traded, 1161shares advanced, 1329 shares declined while 108 remained unchanged.
