Post-Session: Sensex ends over 400 points higher Analysis for May 11, 2015

The Indian benchmarks closed on positive note in the midst of firm global cues, helped by the strong buying in metal, financials and auto stocks among others. The second straight day of gains comes on back of positive US jobs data, government"s softening stance on the MAT issue and easing of crude oil prices. BSE Metal index has surged by 3% followed by counters like Auto, Banks, Healthcare, Realty, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables, all gaining by 2% each. Barring FMCG, all the major BSE sectoral indices are trading in positive zone. Mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) has emerged as the only Indian company among the world's 10 biggest consumer financial services firms, after giants like American Express, Visa and Mastercard. The BSE SENSEX closed at 27507.3 up by 401.91 points or by 1.48 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8325.25 up by 133.75 points or by 1.63 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10453.96 up by 217.75 points or by 2.13 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 10967.62 up by 138.56 points or by 1.28 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 276.05,+5.44 per cent), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 229.85,+5.34 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2384.20,+3.59 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1222.85,+3.16 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 529.65,+3.15 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 864.70,-3.34 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 326.30,-0.53 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 396.30,-0.41 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 540.80,-0.06 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Bank of Baroda (Rs. 169.70,+16.95 per cent), State Bank of India (Rs. 276.05,+5.38 per cent), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 2823.80,+4.66 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2384.25,+3.63 per cent), ACC Ltd. (Rs. 1498.95,+3.48 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 864.70,-3.41 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 326.45,-0.47 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 396.20,-0.44 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1769.90,-0.03 per cent), among others

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, auto index was leading the rise and closed at 18832.17 up by 462.54 points or by 2.52 per cent. Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 16865.30,+6.82 per cent), Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. (Rs. 511.60,+5.32 per cent), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 170.95,+4.17 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2384.20,+3.59 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 529.65,+3.15 per cent)

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2799 , shares advanced were 1755 while 945 shares declined and 99 were unchanged
