Sensex surges 147 points; SBIN, HDFC top gainers Analysis for May 15, 2015

Indian bourses continued to rise during the late noon trading session amid relentless buying activity by the investors after a UN report pegged Indian economy to grow at a clip of 8.1 per cent in 2015-16 led by consumer spending, infra projects, reforms and low inflation.

The 30-share benchmark index rose nearly 150 points buoyed by gains in State Bank of India, HDFC, Mahindra and Mahindra and Bharti Airtel among others, while NSE Nifty grew nearly 40 points.

Further, the investors remained optimistic over hopes of rate cut by Reserve Bank of India with the inflation dropping to a new low in April, providing ample space for the RBI to slash the key policy rate to fuel investments and propel growth.

At 2:14PM BSE SENSEX was at 27353.22, up by 147.16 points or by 0.54 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8263.3, up by 39.1 points or by 0.48 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10575.93, up by 48.99 points or by 0.47 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11078.19, up by 105.85 points or by 0.96 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 27379.57 and an intraday low of 27159.76, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8279.2 and an intraday low of 8212.2.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 287.00,+2.26%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1231.90,+1.95%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1249.95,+1.95%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 392.50,+1.82%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 563.80,+1.24%), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 135.95,-2.23%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 147.50,-2.06%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 161.60,-1.79%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 211.25,-1.63%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 910.75,-1.57%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 10214.58 up by 119.72 points or by 1.19%. PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 334.70,+2.35%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 4008.95,+2.00%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 687.10,+1.75%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 367.05,+1.03%), Videocon Industries Ltd. (Rs. 150.55,+0.90%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1558.92 down by -2.89 points or by -0.19%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 111.95,-3.45%), Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 14.10,-1.74%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 56.90,-1.39%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 125.20,-1.38%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 304.55,-0.41%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2619 shares traded, 1477 shares advanced, 1021 shares declined while 121 remained unchanged.
