Post-Session: Sensex ends nearly 100 points higher Analysis for Jun 23, 2015

The Indian benchmarks ended on a positive note led by buying demand among capital goods and metal shares. However, the upside is capped by profit taking in the information technology shares. Sectorally, BSE Metal index is rallying nearly 2 per cent, followed by BSE Capital Goods index, up by 1.7 per cent. BSE Oil&Gas, Bankex, and Healthcare indices are rallying between 0.3-1 per cent each. BSE Information Technology, however, has dipped 0.8 per cent. Banking shares were rallying on the back on the announcement by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley that the government would infuse capital in public sector banks in the next three to six months. The BSE SENSEX closed at 27804.37, up by 74.16 points or by 0.27 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8381.55, up by 28.45 points or by 0.34 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10651.92, up by 8.23 points or by 0.08 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 11144.97, up by 49.47 points or by 0.45 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 415.15,+3.85 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 630.20,+2.70 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1765.05,+1.96 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1333.65,+1.91 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 139.15,+1.50 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1001.15,-2.27 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2523.20,-2.22 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1772.65,-2.12 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2401.25,-1.00 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 244.05,-0.99 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 415.40,+3.93 per cent), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 143.20,+3.73 per cent), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 2895.90,+3.28 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 630.35,+2.75 per cent), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 150.30,+2.66 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2517.40,-2.48 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1000.40,-2.29 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1771.25,-1.94 per cent), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 139.40,-1.34 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 243.80,-1.16 per cent), among others.

Among the thirteen sectoral indices, metal index was leading the rise and closed at 9500.08, up by 159.61 points or by 1.71 per cent led by Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 415.15,+3.85 per cent), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 172.30,+2.87 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 93.95,+2.45 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 313.45,+0.98 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 121.65,+0.50 per cent),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE, out of total shares traded 2794, shares advanced were 1463 while 1222 shares declined and 109 were unchanged.
