Nifty Crosses 8000 Points On Strong Global Cues

Benchmark indices opened the day higher as global cues remained strong after higher closings in the US markets.

The Sensex was trading with gains of 140 points at 26,333 points, while the Nifty was trading with gains of 41 points at 8018 points. Shares in Ashok Leyland rose on reports of listing of its finance arm sometime next year.

Top Nifty losers in trade were Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever and ICICI Bank. Shares in Motherson Sumi continued to slide lower by 6 per cent, after the 7 per cent fall seen on Monday, taking total losses to 14 per cent in 2 days.

MMTC was higher after the company said that it will sell its 10 per cent stake in the commodity bourse ICEX equally among two bidders.

Tata Motors saw buying interest after the company said that it planned to launch a new small commercial vehicle (SCV) 'Magic Mantra' in the country next month.

Mid cap shares were also trading higher in line with the broader markets with shares like Concor and Ipca Labs among the gainers.

Shares in Infosys rallied 1.2 per cent on good buying support pushing the benchmark indices higher. Meanwhile, markets across Asia were trading with gains led by gains in the Shanghai Composite and the Hong Kong's Hang Sang.
