Sensex opens lower on geopolitical tension Analysis for Nov 16, 2015

The Indian markets were trading on a weak note during the morning trading session mirroring losses across the global peers in the wake of a recent terror attack in Paris causing panic among the investors. Meanwhile, sluggish macroeconomic data further dampened the sentiments.

At 9:35AM BSE SENSEX was at 25510.46, down by 100.07 points or by 0.39 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 7742, down by 20.25 points or by 0.26 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 10628.44, down by 25.04 points or by 0.24 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11113.54, down by 11.9 points or by 0.11 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 335.30,+1.78 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3421.00,+1.08 per cent), State Bank of India (Rs. 242.00,+0.75 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 263.30,+0.61 per cent), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 934.45,+0.46 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 329.00,-2.56 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1074.80,-2.33 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 224.90,-1.70 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 478.00,-1.25 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1164.10,-1.22 per cent), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of total 1655 shares traded, 786 shares advanced, 785 shares declined while 84 were unchanged.

Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE_IT index was at 10756.04, down by 167.12 points or by 1.53 per cent led by Datamatics Global Services Ltd. (Rs. 52.90,-6.62 per cent), Mastek Ltd. (Rs. 165.40,-3.89 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1074.80,-2.33 per cent), D-Link (India) Ltd. (Rs. 145.40,-2.02 per cent), HCL Infosystems Ltd. (Rs. 57.25,-1.72 per cent).

Asian stocks were trading lower on Monday morning after the recent terrorist attack in Paris dampened the risk appetite of the investors. Meanwhile, weak macroeconomic data in Japan and tightening of margin trading rules in China further dented the sentiments. Japan"s Nikkei, China"s Shanghai Composite, Hong Kong"s Hnag Seng slumped between 0.5-1.7 per cent.
