Sensex Surges Again; Ends A Superb Week For The Markets
It was a third successive day of gains for the markets, in which the index jumped more than 1300 points in these three trading sessions.
The rally was despite weakish cues from across Asia and Europe. Leading the set of gainers in trade was Sun Pharma, which jumped a huge 5 per cent, while other notable gainers were HDFC, Reliance, Bajaj Auto.
State Bank of India, which reported numbers that were eagerly awaited, ended the day little changed. The stock had already run-up sharply in the last two trading sessions.
Larsen and Toubro, which also saw a sharp run on Thursday, following a good set of numbers, ended the day flat.
Individual midcap shares saw solid traction with Reliance Power jumping 9 per cent, while other notable gainers from the space were JSW Energy, IDFC and Biocon.
ONGC lost ground in trade after crude oil prices saw a dip. Axis Bank, Vedanta and NTPC were the other gainers in trade.
Eros Entertainment was trading higher ahead of the company's results to be declared later today.
Meanwhile, the European markets were marginally lower with the German DAX and the French CAC losing ground. The rupee gained some strength at 67.02 to the US dollar. Check currency rates here
