In a move to encourage cashless transactions,Indian Railway waived off service charges for online ticket bookings. Now a passenger will not be charged extra for using credit or debit card for booking a train ticket at the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters.
Booking of E-tickets and I-tickets from IRCTC website will be cheaper from 23rd Nov 2016 to 31st Dec 2016.
IRCTC currently charges service fee of Rs 40 for AC class ticket and Rs 20 for non-AC sleeper class tickets. The new step came after the government's announcement to demonetize denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
