Aadhaar has been made the crucial Id with embedded safety features as of your biometrics not only for enrolling under social security schemes but also in financial matters. In line with the nation wide move of linking Aadhaar with PAN and other unique IDs, now you as per the directive of the Department of Telecom are required to link your valid mobile number with Aadhaar for continuing using the services of your telecom provider.

For new connections, Aadhaar based e-KYC has been mandated. Also, the existing user base has to be re-verified by the telecom companies basis the unique Aadhaar ID and biometric details of customers. The process has begun by some of the telecom majors including Airtel and Idea who have started sending SMS to their subscribers for linking Aadhaar with their mobile number.

The Sms sent is as though "As per Government's directive, it is mandatory to link Aadhaar card with your airtel mobile number. Visit your nearest retailer to ensure continued services. So, to get going with the process, here is a step-by-step guide to enable you link the two numbers easily and smoothly.

Here's how you can link mobile number with unique Aadhaar number

To link your mobile number with Aadhaar if it's being done for the first time, the offline procedure is available. For it either you can go to your nearest telecom provider's office or the UIDAI office and request for the Aadhaar updation form.The form can also be downloaded from the website of UIDAI.

Fill the form with the updated mobile number and submit it to the concerned authorities clearly specifying that only mobile number has to be updated. You will also be asked to furnish your Aadhaar card photocopy together with other identity proof such as PAN, voter ID or passport copy.

Later your biometrics shall be verified using your thumb impressions which were recorded at the time of applying Aadhaar for the updation to be effected. Upon successful verification of the provided biometrics, the centre shall provide you with an acknowledgment slip and the required linking shall be executed in 2-5 working days of the UIDAI centre.
