Invoice Uploading Becomes Live On GSTN

For compliance under GST, GSTN has now rolled out invoice uploading functionality on its platform from Monday.

|

Invoice uploading feature is now available from Monday on the GST Network or GSTN system, which is the main body serving as the information technology arm of the Goods and Service Tax.

GSTN CEO, Prakash Kumar said, it is not mandatory to start the uploading but "it's live". Earlier it was allowed for only some categories that include tax consultants, some officials and Suvidha providers. Further on uploading of invoices, Kumar said that they can be uploaded either by assessees themselves or by Suvidha providers. And to cater to this need, the information technology wing of GST, GSTN had come up with Excel template on June 30 in addition to other offline tools.

As per one of the Suvidha providers, uploading of invoices is only supported in JSON format so those businesses and traders maintaining invoices in excel sheets need conversion into JSON format.

Chairman of GSTN, Navin Kumar appealed assesseess to not wait for the last minute. He said "We encourage businesses, particularly MSMEs (micro, small and medium) and larger businesses that generate large numbers of invoices to start uploading the data to the portal straightaway and not wait until September, when the July return will be due".

To give time to assessees so that they familiarize with the new format and implement the same, the Council has granted them to file date wise return for July until 20th August and returns backed by invoice by September 5.
