Banks To Go On Nationwide Strike On August 22

Not satisfied by some of the banking sector reforms and other issues, UFBU has made a call to go on a nationwide banking strike on August 22.

|

The United Forum of Bank Union or UFBU, an umbrella body including 9 bank unions in the country was in talks with IBA in Mumbai. But "Since nothing positive emerged (at the talks) on the issues raised by us, our call for strike on August 22 stands," C.H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) told a news agency.

The union has put forth a notice beforehand to go on strike as a protest for banking sector reforms as well as other issues.

The Union on Wednesday declared that their call for strike stands firm. General General Secretary of the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) said that "The IBA requested to withdraw strike without any concrete solution to the demands. Hence the strike call stands".

The Forum has been called upon for a meeting in New Delhi on August 18 to reach at some reconciliation by the Chief Labour Commissioner.
