Is medical check up necessary for taking health insurance?
Insurance companies do not insist on a medical for a new health insurance policy, if the applicant is under 45-50. However, a medical checkup is necessary for a new health insurance policy for customers above the age of 45-50 years, depending on which insurance service provider you choose.

Certain health insurance service providers exempt medicals for Senior citizen policy offered to people between 60 yrs to 69 yrs.

 

A lot of the norms and guidelines would defer from amongst the various insurance providers. If you are above the age mentioned above, then you need to take medical tests at the designated centres allotted by the insurance service provider.

 

An adult of age 46 years and above has to undergo the following medical tests:

1. Complete Blood count
2. Fasting Blood Sugar
3. ESR
4. Serum Creatinine
5. SGPT
6. Urine Routine
7. ECG
8. Medical Examination with BP recordings - By a physician

Pre-existing disease

You will have to inform of any pre-existing disease. Any condition, aliment or injury or relation condition(s), for which the insured had signs or symptoms and/or diagnosed and/or received medical advice/treatment within 48/24* months prior to the first policy with the insurance company.
