6 Ways To Verify Tax Returns Electronically

The Income tax department has become increasingy digital savvy with each day and encouraging tax payers to file tax returns online. Last year, the tax department gave an option to replace the process of sending ITR-V form to CPC by giving various options to verify returns online.

 

Online e filing the returns also called as Electronic Verification Code (EVC) is a 10 digit alpha-numeric number (one-time password) sent to registered mobile number filing returns online.
Earlier, generating EVC had four option now there are 6 ways to generate EVC.

 
6 Ways To Verify Tax Returns Electronically

Here are 6 ways to verify tax returns electronically:

1) Net banking

Bank customers can verify returns electronically if their bank is eligible to do so. One can login with bank User ID and password seek redirection to e-filing then it will be redirected to the E-filing website, go to pending actions, and select 'e-verify' and confirm the same. Once it is done, it will send EVC to validated mobile number registered at Income Tax site.

2) Aadhaar Authentication

A Verifier can provide his Aadhaar number for linking with his PAN on the e-filing site. The same will be verified on the basis of his name, date of birth and gender as per PAN database with similar data available under his Aadhaar with UIDAI.

Once it is successful, the verifier's Aadhaar will be linked to his PAN. Thereafter, an OTP will be generated by UIDAI and sent to the Verifier's mobile number registered with UIDAI.

3) Automatic Teller Machine (ATM)of Bank

A taxpayer can access the ATM of the Bank in which he is using ATM (Debit/Credit) card. After due authentication by ATM PIN at the Bank. From the options, taxpayer can select the 'Generate EVC for Income Tax Return Filing' from the ATM screen (this option will be available at ATMs of specified banks).

The Bank will communicate this request to the Income Tax Department E-Filing website which will generate the EVC and send the EVC to registered mobile number with E-Filing.
As of now, this facility is launched by SBI and Axis Bank.

4) E-filing Website

Tax payers whose total income is Rs 5 lakhs and below and there is no refund claim, such tax payer can generate an EVC on the E-filing website. Once successful, that will be sent to the Registered Email ID and mobile number.

5) Bank Account details

For individuals who is not comfortable using net banking can opt for this method. Login to income tax site, go to profile settings- and click on prevalidate bank account by providing details such as bank account number, IFSC code, email ID and mobile number.

These details shall be validated along with PAN and name with the particulars registered with the bank.

Once the details are validated, the EVC will be sent to registered mobile number.

6) Demat Account

Login to income tax site, go to profile settings- and click on prevalidate demat account. Enter details such as DP ID, Client ID, mobile number, Email ID and click prevalidate.

Once the details are confirmed by depository, demat details can be validated and then EVC can be generated using this option.
