Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY): Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a government scheme to help lakhs of Indians who dream of owning a house but fail to turn it into reality because of financial constraints. The scheme was launched in 2015 to make 'Housing for all' a reality.
What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?
The central government scheme provides eligible families access to affordable housing in both urban and rural areas. The scheme addresses urgent housing shortage among the EWS/LIG and MIG categories, including slum dwellers, by making a pucca house available to everyone.
What Is The Eligibility For PM Awas Yojana?
The eligibility under PMAY depends on factors like household income, ownership of a house and whether the applicant has already received housing assistance under any government scheme.
The PMAY-Urban 2.0 was launched in 2024 and eligible beneficiaries including families from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), the Middle Income Group (MIG), categories.
EWS House Under PMGAY Urban
Those people who have an annual family income of up to Rs 3 lakh are eligible for this category.
LIG, MIG Households
This category of house is available for those who have an annual family income between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh. Meanwhile, MIG Household scheme is with annual family income between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh.
The applicant of PMGAY must not have any permanent house anywhere in India. The beneficiary should not have availed benefits under another central or state government housing scheme for the same purpose.
The beneficiaires under PMAY-G are identified based on housing deprivation and socio-economic criteria. While eligible beneficiaires can apply for the scheme, the final selection will be held based on housing deprivation and socio-economic criteria.
PM Awas Yojana Benefit
The scheme covers a wide range of benefits, including assistance for eligible families to construct houses on their own land. The scheme also covers affordable housing projects in partnership with agencies, rental housing options in urban areas and interest subsidy on home loans.
Under the PMAY-G, beneficiaries from rural households receive financial assistance to build permanent houses along with basic amenities.
How To Apply For PM Awas Yojana?
Eligible applicants can visit the official PMAY portal or apply through designated government offices and common service centres (CSCs).
To apply for the scheme, applicants are required to submit Aadhaar information, family details, income-related information and bank account details. The application goes through verification by the concerned authorities before approval.
