Bank customers across India should check the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar before visiting branches in August 2026, as banks will remain closed on several occasions due to national holidays, weekends and regional festivals. While digital banking services such as UPI, internet banking and mobile banking are expected to remain available, branch-based services will not be accessible on notified holidays.
RBI Bank Holiday Calendar for August 2026
The first nationwide bank holiday of the month will be observed on August 8 (Saturday), the second Saturday, when banks across India will remain shut.
Another nationwide closure will take place on August 15 (Saturday) for Independence Day. Since the national holiday falls on a Saturday this year, customers requiring branch services should complete important banking work in advance.
The holiday schedule varies from state to state, meaning not every closure will apply across the country. Customers planning activities such as cash deposits, cheque clearances, demand drafts, locker operations, loan documentation or other in-person banking services should verify the holiday list applicable to their city.
