The government has increased the OFS from a base 2.5% stake to up to 6.5% by exercising its green-shoe option, after Day 1 non-retail bidding on Tuesday was subscribed 3.32 times, with institutional investors placing bids worth Rs. 36,400 crore.

If the full offer goes through, the government could raise close to Rs. 31,000 crore, reducing its stake in LIC from 96.5% to 90%, moving the insurer closer to SEBI's mandated 10% minimum public shareholding norm by May 2027.
