Maharashtra Rains: Red, Orange & Yellow Alerts Till July 25 In Mumbai, Thane, Pune, More; Are Schools Closed?

The AccuWeather tracker alerted that cloudy and heavy showers were recorded this morning in Mumbai, with the temperature hitting 29 degrees Celsius. The wind gusts is at 43 km/h, with 98% probability of participation and 28% chance of thunderstorms. The night weather is predicted to see 48 km/h wind gusts.

IMD has assigned a Yellow Alert to Mumbai with expectations of heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. Occasional strong winds could reach 50-60 kmph on July 22.

Yellow Alert will continue till July 23, and from then onward, the weather ease down with moderate rains expected on July 24 and July 25 in the city.

Yellow, Orange, Red Alert On Pune

For Pune, IMD issued a yellow alert for the main city but has assigned a red alert near its ghats.

The ghats in Pune are the only place where a red warning is assigned compared to other regions. Here, IMD believes heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few ghats, with extremely heavy rainfall likely in isolated places of the ghats on July 22. The weather around the Pune ghats will continue to be intense in the coming days as well because IMD assigns an orange alert for July 23 and yellow warnings each on July 24 and July 25.

While in the main city, heavy monsoon could calm from July 23rd to July 25th with light to moderate rains.

Orange Alerts On Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Other Regions

IMD has issued ORANGE alerts on places like Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Ghats of Nashik and Satara.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places. Occasional strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely," IMD said for these places.

Additionally, a yellow alert is assigned in Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg for July 23rd. Moderate rains are likely between July 24 to July 25.

Notably, for Raigad, yellow alert is going to stay till July 25th and in Ratnagiri till July 24th.

Nashik Rains:

Orange alert is given on ghats of Nashik for July 22 with expectations of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, while the intensity of the spells will continue till July 23rd with a yellow alert.

For the main city, yellow alert is given for both July 22nd and July 23rd. On Thursday, in Nashik, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall & gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places.

Satara Rains Forecast:

IMD is predicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in the ghats of Satara for two consecutive days between July 22nd and July 23rd and hence, an orange alert is assigned. Heavy rainfall will continue at isolated places in Satara on July 24th as well with a yellow warning.

However, light to moderate rains will be seen in the cityside of Satara till July 25.

Mumbai Rains: Are Schools & Colleges Closed Today?

Despite the Orange and Yellow alerts, as of now, education bodies have not made any official statement regarding school and colleges' holidays on July 22. Hence, schools and colleges are operating as normal in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.

IMD Advisory For Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Pune, Nashika, and others:

1. Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.

2. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard

3. Avoid staying in vulnerable structures.

4. Avoid working in open areas and fields while thunderstorms are taking place.

5. Avoid taking shelter under tall trees and structures when a thunderstorm is occurring.

6. Immediately get out of water bodies.

7, Keep away from all objects that conduct electricity.
