LPG KYC Message: It all starts with a seemingly genuine message alerting customers about a pending LPG KYC update. The message warns that their LPG connection will be disconnected within 24 hours due to the pending KYC. It also includes a link to complete the verification. However, by the time the customer clicks the link and completes the verification process, their bank details may be exposed to fraudsters, potentially leading to the loss of their hard-earned money.
In its latest advisory, ICICI Bank has warned its customers of the LPG KYC Scam, which is becoming popular among fraudsters. In its July 2026 'Orange Book' newsletter, ICICI Bank warned customers about a scam built around the LPG KYC Scam, reported News 18.
How LPG KYC Scam Work?
Customers may receive a message warning that they might miss their LPG connection. It says that the LPG connection will be disconnected within 24 hours if the customer fails to complete the verification.
The message also includes a link that will redirect customers to another window for verification.
What Makes The Fraud Message Look Genuine?
Right logo, official language, bare-minimum typos, and the timing makes the message genuine and hard to ignore for customers. As per ICICI Bank, the recent concerns around LPG due to the Iran-US war has sparked concerns among common people. Scammer have been exploiting the recent anxiety around LPG supply and global fuel supply disruptions.
Fraudsters can pose as gas agencies, oil companies, or even government officials to reach out through messaging apps and create urgency to complete verification. Pushing on such unverified links can give them window to instal malicious APK file. Sharing OTP can pose risk of losing crucial information and even money.
Key Pattern of LPG KYC Scam
-Fraudsters contact genuine customers and claim their LPG subsidy or connection has been blocked or stopped.
-The message even insist on an urgent KYC update to avoid disconnection.
-The scammers share fake links for subsidy verification or LPG booking. IF the scammer is contacting the customer on call, they can even request confidential details like OTPs, card information and even UPI approvals.
How To Stay Safe From LPG KYC SCams?
-Always carefully read such messages or emails before acting on it or clicking on the link.
-Make sure to verify the source independently first.
-Never downloadapps or APK files through messages or calls.
-Never ever share OTPs, PINs, or other crucial card details, or passwords with anyone.
-If you are convinced that the message is authentic. Instead of clicking on the shared link, use official websites or websites from oil and gas companies for bookings and updates.
-Confirm gas bils or KYC requests through official websites.
