The actor-turned-politician, C. Joseph Vijay, aka Thalapathy, has presented his budget for Tamil Nadu as chief minister on August 5, 2026. He marked his presence along with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government on the first day of the state legislature's assembly session. This is also TVK's first maiden budget. Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin and other DMK MLAs have also arrived at the assembly to welcome the CM and hear the budget.

The budget was expected to focus on TVK's promises made during election rallies. The budget is expected to focus on women empowerment and job opportunities for youth.

Among some of the promises TVK had made was Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women heads of families covered under the Madhippumiku Magalir Thittam. Also, details on unemployment allowances for stranded jobless youth are likely to offer much-needed relief if announced.

It is being reported that Vijay's budget comes with a financial constraint, where his government is avoiding major welfare announcements with the exception of the Thaimaman Thanga Modhiram (Gold Ring) Scheme.

Vijay's budget for the state is likely to focus on fiscal priorities, youth and women's livelihood enhancement, and a roadmap for the state's development and welfare schemes. Overall, the TVK government is expected to unveil the "Vetri Tamilagam" (Prosperous Tamil Nadu) vision plan.
