The term "Compressed Natural Gas," or CNG, is a kind of fuel that can be used as an alternative in the place of petrol, diesel, gasoline, LPG/propane. The compressed natural gas is made by compressing the natural gas, which mainly contains methane, to less than 1% of its volume. This is considered the safest fuel, as it does not have any negative impact on the environment.
PNG Prices In India:
PNG rates are cheapest form of petroleum products in India. It is mostly used as an alternative to LPG in Indian households. For August 2026, PNG rates are unchanged across the cities.
PNG price stood at Rs 49.59 in Delhi, at Rs 50 each in Kolkata and Chennai. While PNG is available at Rs 51.50 in Mumbai, and at Rs 51 each in cities like Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram.
The cheapest PNG is at Rs 45.33 in Bhubaneswar, at Rs 48.40 in Gurgaon and at RS 49.45 in Noida. PNG is most expensive in cities like Lucknow at Rs 56.50, in Chandigarh at Rs 54.70 and in Bengaluru at Rs 53 per SCM.
PNG (Piped Natural Gas) is derived from natural gas, which primarily consists of methane. It is supplied directly through pipelines and used in households, industries, and commercial setups. Compared to LPG, PNG is less toxic, burns cleaner, and significantly reduces the risk of accidents due to its lighter-than-air property.
LPG-PNG Rules:
The rule to switch to PNG if there is an infrastructure available for piped natural gas in your locality, will continue in August 2026. The government has made it mandatory that one household will have only one cooking gas, either LPG or PNG. But wherever PNG facility is available, households must switch to PNG mandatorily.
Apart from the normal surrender rules for LPG when changing locations, the government has made it mandatory to terminate Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas connections within 30-days timespan once switched to PNG completely.
However, customers can avail a transfer voucher to reconnect with LPG cylinders, if moving to non-PNG area.
