The claim procedure depends on the prize amount. Winners of smaller prizes up to Rs 500 can generally collect the amount from an authorised lottery retailer. Prizes above this limit must be claimed through the District Lottery Office or the Directorate of State Lotteries.
For first and second prize winners, as well as winners residing outside Kerala, the claim must be submitted directly to the Directorate of State Lotteries. The original winning ticket is compulsory for verification, and damaged or altered tickets may not be accepted.
Claimants are also required to submit supporting documents such as a valid identity proof, PAN card, passport-size photographs, bank account details and a duly filled claim application wherever applicable.
Submit Claims Within Prescribed Time
Prize money cannot be claimed indefinitely. The Kerala Lottery Department requires winners to submit their claims within 90 days from the date of the draw. Delayed applications are generally not entertained.
Before handing over the ticket for verification, winners should sign on the reverse side of the original ticket and keep it in a safe place to avoid any dispute regarding ownership.
Tax Will Be Deducted Before Payment
Lottery winnings are taxable under Indian income tax rules. For eligible prizes, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is deducted before the prize amount is paid to the winner. Therefore, winners of high-value prizes, including the Rs 1 crore jackpot, will receive the amount after applicable tax deductions.
The department also advises winners to retain copies of all claim documents and tax certificates, as these may be required while filing income tax returns or for future financial records.
