Bank Holidays in Madhya Pradesh during April

In April, the government of Madhya Pradesh has declared holidays on April 1, on account of the Annual Closing of accounts of Commercial and Co-operative Banks; April 10, on account of Id-ul-Fitr; and April 14, on account of Dr Ambedkar Jayanti/Vishu.

Eid-al-Fitr is a Muslim festival. The festival is celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm by people all around the world. Muslims observe fast from early morning till sunset. They break the fast after sighting the moon during evening time post sunset. During this time Muslims perform formal prayers known as Salah five times per day. During Ramzan, there will be an extra Salah known as Tarawih during nighttime. In the evening after sighting the moon, Muslims will break their fast by eating dates along with water juice or buttermilk.

Except for gazetted holidays, banks are not the same across all the states in India. If Banks in Madhya Pradesh are closed on one particular day it does not mean banks are also closed in other parts of the country.

All the banks including ICICI Bank, DCB Bank, Federal Bank and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited will remain closed on the bank holidays in Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from regular holidays, two regional bank holidays that will be observed in Madhya Pradesh in April 2024 include:

April 1 - Annual Closing of Accounts of Commercial and Co-operative Banks

April 9- Chetichand

April 10 - Id-ul-Fitr

April 14 - Dr Ambedkar Jayanti/Vishu.

April 17 - Ram Navami

April -21 - Mahavir Jayanti

The second week and the fourth week of Saturdays are declared as Bank Holidays. It is a Central government holiday. All the nationalized banks, and public and private sector banks remain closed on those two days across the country.

Thus, if banks in other states are open on a certain date in the month of April, it is not necessary that banks in Madhya Pradesh will also remain open on that day. During these bank holidays in Madhya Pradesh, the banks are closed. As per an understanding between the Indian Banks' Association and All India Bank Employees Association, all public sector banks in Madhya Pradesh and other states of India are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

In Madhya Pradesh, bank holidays do not mean people will not have access to net banking facilities. Even when banks are closed people can conduct financial transactions via online mode.

Mahavir Jayanti: The main Jain festival of the year is Mahavir Jayanti, it is the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the founder of Jainism in India. The Jain community in India mainly celebrates the festival. It is a government holiday, and all the banks will be closed on this day.

Parashurama Jayanti: The day will be dedicated to Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Parashurama Jayanti will be celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha. As per the mythological texts, Lord Parshurama was born on Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya to King Prasenjit's daughter – Renuka, and Sage Jamadagni of the Bhrigu dynasty. He was the fifth son of his parents. He had four elder brothers named Rumanvant, Sushen, Vishwa, and Vishwavasu.

Devotees observe fast from the night before the day of Parashuram Jayanti. They visit temples and offer their prayers to Lord Vishnu.

They will stay awake during the night and recite Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram to appease Lord Vishnu. On this day, donating food to Brahmins is considered very auspicious. Any auspicious work done on this day is believed to yield fruitful results.

Eid-ul-Fitr: It is a Muslim festival. Ramzan is a significant festival for Muslims. It is observed in two parts. The first part is a kind of renunciation – no food will be consumed during the mornings. The second part of the culmination of the first part that is during the evening after sunset for feasting and happiness. The month of Ramadan is considered a holy and auspicious month because it is in this month the prophet Muhammad Nabi got the first few verses of the early chapters of the Holy Quran from Lord Allah. Quran is the most sacred written book or literature to Muslims. Holy Quran is like a guide, orientation or the path of salvation for Muslims. The prophet revealed this knowledge in the form of verses to his followers.
