In April, the government of Telangana declared numerous holidays for its citizens this year accounting to a total of 8 holidays excluding the four Sundays during the month. April 5, on account of Babu Jagjivan Ram's birthday; April 9th, on account of Ugadi; April 11, on account of Eid-al-Fitr; April 13th, the second week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday; April 14, on account of Dr Ambedkar Jayanti; April 17 for Ram Navami; and April 27, the fourth week of Saturday as Bank Holiday in Telangana.

Babu Jagjivan Ram's Birthday: Jagjivan Ram was an Indian Independence activist and politician from Bihar. He was popularly known as Babuji. To commemorate his birth anniversary, the government of Telangana declares a bank holiday every year. He was a Dalit Leader. He was instrumental in the foundation of the All India Depressed Classes League, an organisation dedicated to attaining equality for the untouchables in 1935. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of India between 1977-1979.
Eid-al-Fitr: Eid is a Muslim festival. It is celebrated with great pomp and splendour throughout the country. Ramadan is a festival that is celebrated for one month. The festival begins and ends with the sighting of the new moon. During this period people will perform prayers five times in a day. Muslims do not consume food from the time of sunrise to sunset. During the fasting period, they do not even swallow saliva.
Ugadi: It is a Hindu festival. Ugadi marks the beginning of the new year as per the Hindu calendar. People across the state celebrate it traditionally with day-long festivities. The festival falls on the first day of Chaitra Masam, which is the first month as per the traditional Hindu calendar.
People wake up early, take an oil bath and wear new clothes and listen to Panchanga Shravanam on this day to know the Rashi phalas for the year. Special festival treats including Ugadi Pachadi, Chintapandu Pulihora, Mammidikaya Pulihora, Bobbattu, Badami Payasam, Bellam Paramannam, Pesara Pappu Paramannam, Pal Payasam, Poornam Boorelu, Sojjappalu and so on will be prepared to mark the occasion.
Sri Rama Navami: Rama Navami is a Hindu festival. It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Rama, believed to be the avatar of Vishnu. The festival celebrates the descent of Lord Vishnu as Rama, through his birth to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya. It is a part of spring Navratri. Important celebrations on this day take place in Bhadrachalam. On this day all the banks in the state will remain closed.
