It is a public holiday in India. The term Christmas consists of two words, namely Christ and Mass which stands for the mass celebration of Jesus Christ. On the eve of Christmas, Midnight mass will be held in several churches across the city and people from many walks of life will attend the Midnight Mass. Churches make the ‘Christmas Crib’ which acts as a representation of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Churches will be decorated and carol singing begins at night, followed by the mass. Most people who follow Christianity attend the Midnight mass at their parish churches. The houses will be decorated with Christmas trees and gifts will be placed below the tree which will be exchanged during the evening. The main door of the house will be adorned with ribbons, garlands and Christmas holly which helps to keep the evil out. People prepare mouth-watering dishes, including plum cakes, Roast Chicken, Stew, Biryani, Candy canes, Vindaloo, etc.
