In January, the Assam government announced holidays on the following days. January 14, the second week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday and Magh Bihu; January 15, on account of Tusu Puja; January 23; on account of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti; January 24; on account of Gothar Bathon Sun; January 26, on account of Republic Day; January 28, the fourth week of Saturday as Bank Holiday; January 31, on account of Me-dam-me-phi.

All the banks in Assam will remain closed on the above-mentioned days. The banks will not perform the usual functioning on these days. All the banks including Punjab National Bank, Nainital Bank, YES Bank and City Union Bank will remain closed on the bank holidays.
Magh Bihu: It is a Hindu festival. It is popularly known as Bhogali Bihu or Maghar Domani. It is a harvest festival which is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm by the people. The festival usually lasts for a week. People erect makeshift huts also known as Bhelaghar made from Bamboo, thatch, leaves and inside these makeshift huts food will be cooked for the feast on a festive day and these huts will be burnt the very next day after the end of the festival. People also organize games such as tekeli bhonga and buffalo fight. Special delicacies including cakes made of rice known as Til Pitha, Shunga Pitha, sweets like laru and so on will be prepared to mark the event.
