Except for gazetted holidays, banks are not the same across all the states in India. If Banks in Maharashtra are closed on one particular day it does not mean banks are also closed in other parts of the country.

All the banks including ICICI Bank, DCB Bank, Federal Bank and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited will remain closed on the bank holidays in Maharashtra.

Mumbai, known as the financial center of India, is the capital of Maharashtra. It is India's second-most populous state and third-largest state by area. Bank holidays in Maharashtra include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Gudi Padwa, and Maharashtra Day.

If you have never thought of vacationing in Maharashtra then you can visit the state on a bank holiday in Maharashtra. Some of the famous places in Maharashtra are Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala, Khandala, Matheran, Ajanta and Ellora caves, and Panchgani.

Bank Holidays in Maharashtra during June

In the month of June, banks will remain closed for seven days. The days when banks will remain closed in Maharashtra include:
June 9 - Sunday
June 15 - Saturday
June 16- Sunday
June 17 - Monday (Id-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid)
June 23 - Sunday
June 29 - Saturday
June 30 - Sunday

Apart from regional holidays, Maharashtra also has regional holidays. Thus, if banks in other states are open on a certain date it is not necessary that banks in Maharashtra will also remain open on that day. During these bank holidays in Maharashtra, the banks are closed.

As per an understanding between the Indian Banks' Association and All India Bank Employees Association, all public sector banks in Maharashtra and other states of India are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

In Maharashtra, bank holidays do not mean people will not have access to net banking facilities. Even when banks are closed people can conduct financial transactions via online mode.

The second week of Saturday and the fourth week of Saturday are declared as bank holidays as per the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881.

Vat Pournima: It is a Hindu festival which is observed during the Jesht month as per Hindu calendar and falls between May and June. During the festival, women observe fast and tie threads around a banyan tree and pray for the longevity of their husband’s life. The celebration is derived from the story of Satyavan and Savitri. Savitri had saved her husband from Lord Yama, who is considered as the ‘God of Death’. To wish for the well being and for the long life of their husband’s, married women in India observe Vat Savitri Vrat and worship Banyan tree on this day. The banks will remain functional on Vat Pournima and there will be no public holiday on this day.
