Vat Savitri Vrat: It is a Hindu festival which is observed during the Jesht month as per the Hindu calendar and falls between May and June. During the festival, women observe fast and tie threads around a banyan tree and pray for the longevity of their husband’s life. The celebration is derived from the story of Satyavan and Savitri. Savitri had saved her husband from Lord Yama, who is considered the ‘God of Death’. To wish for the well-being and for the long life of their husbands, married women in India observe Vat Savitri Vrat and worship the Banyan tree on this day. The banks will remain functional on Vat Pournima and there will be no public holiday on this day.
Bakrid: Eid–ul-Adha is also called as Bakrid. The day is celebrated to honour Prophet Abraham. It is believed that Abraham was a great devotee of God and he was tested for the same. He was asked to sacrifice his only son. Abraham or Ibrahim followed the command of God and was ready to sacrifice his son. Later, God intervened and during the act, a lamb was sacrificed instead of Ibrahim’s son.
The day is marked by sacrificing an animal or lamb and is divided into three parts. Tourist can decide to visit numerous places in Telangana to experience the Muslim culture and traditions followed in Telangana.
