In May, the government of Assam declared a holiday on the following days. May 1, on account of May Day; May 5, on account of Buddha Purnima; May 13, the second week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday; on May 27, the fourth week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday.

During bank holidays all the banks will remain closed. It will not perform regular banking transactions in its branches. A bank holiday will be declared under the Negotiable Instrument Act of 1881.
All the banks including Bandhan Bank, City Union Bank, DCB Bank and South Indian Bank will remain closed on all the bank holidays.
May Day: It is celebrated as Labour Day across India. The labourers demand better working conditions and pay benefits for the working class people. Meetings will be organized across the state. It is a public holiday. It commemorates the historic uprising of the working people in Chicago for an eight-hour workday. The Labour and Employment Ministry will conduct various programs on the day to mark the occasion.
Buddha Purnima: Buddha Purnima is celebrated to commemorate Lord Buddha’s birth, his enlightenment and attaining salvation. Gautama Buddha whose life spanned 80 years was an enlightened teacher who taught ahimsa to human beings on earth. He is considered to be an avatar of the Hindu god Lord Vishnu. He is believed to have taken birth into the Shakya family and was raised in its capital city of Kapilvastu. He obtained enlightenment under the bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya and gave his first sermon in Sarnath which is located in Bihar.
