Bank Holidays in Gujarat during May

Gujarat, one of the most beautiful and diverse states of India, celebrates a number of fairs and festivals throughout the year. Of all these festivals, the Beach festival is a unique festival where people from all walks of life and of all ages will celebrate with more enthusiasm. The festival is organized at Tithal Beach which is 4 kilometres from Valsad Town during the month of May. The beach has scenic beauty, and tranquillity and has black sand on its beach. The organizers host the event with food, music, fun and entertainment activities that will be held which attract people from various parts of the country. The banks will usually function on this day and it is not a state holiday in Gujarat.

Parashurama Jayanti: The day will be dedicated to Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Parashurama Jayanti will be celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha. As per the mythological texts, Lord Parshurama was born on Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya to King Prasenjit's daughter – Renuka, and Sage Jamadagni of the Bhrigu dynasty. He was the fifth son of his parents. He had four elder brothers named Rumanvant, Sushen, Vishwa, and Vishwavasu.

Devotees observe fast from the night before the day of Parashuram Jayanti. They visit temples and offer their prayers to Lord Vishnu. They will stay awake during the night and recite Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram to appease Lord Vishnu.

On this day, donating food to Brahmins is considered very auspicious. Any auspicious work done on this day is believed to yield fruitful results.
