In May, the government of Karnataka declared May 01 as holiday on account of May Day/Labour Day and May 10, 2024 as bank holiday on account of BasavaJanyanthi. Banks will also remain closed on May 11, 2nd Saturday and May 25, 4th Saturday.

Bank Holidays in Karnataka during May

During the 2nd week and 4thweek of Saturday, all banks including Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank and IDFC Bank will remain closed in Karnataka.

May Day: May Day is also known as Labour Day or Worker’s Day in some countries. It is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the International labour movement which occurs every year on May Day. It is also celebrated as an ancient European spring festival. The first day of May is a national public holiday in many countries across the world. May 1st was chosen to be International Worker’s Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago.

May Day is celebrated in India also. It is declared a national holiday. The first May Day celebration in India was organized in Madras by the LabourKisan Party of Hindustan on May 1, 1923. It was also the first time; the red flag was used in India. In Karnataka, it is called KarmikaraDinacharane. It is a Bank Holiday in Karnataka and on this day all the banks will remain closed.
