Bank Holidays in November 2024 in Assam

In November, the Assam government announced holidays on the following days. November 11, the second week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday; November 12, on account of Diwali and Kali Puja; November 15, on account of Bhatri Dwitiya; November 19, on account of Chhath Puja; November 24, on account of Lachit Divas; November 25, the fourth week of Saturday as a Bank Holiday and November 27, on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Bank Holidays in Assam during November

All the banks in Assam will remain closed on the above-mentioned days. The banks will not perform the usual functioning on these days. All the banks including Punjab & Sind Bank, Vijaya Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and Karnataka Bank will remain closed on the bank holidays.

Diwali: It is a Hindu festival. The festival falls during the Hindu calendar month of Kartika. It usually falls in the mid-October to mid-November period. The festival is celebrated on a new moon day. Diwali is popularly known as the festival of lights. The five-day festival begins on the day when Goddess Lakshmi was born and hence during Diwali, lamps will be placed outside the house to welcome goddess Lakshmi and to seek her divine blessings. People start the preparations for the festival days in advance by cleaning the house and painting it. They purchase new clothes for the festival and prepare sweet delicacies like Dehrori, Jalebi, Petha, Rakhia Badi and so on.

Guru Nanak Jayanti: It is a Sikh festival. The day commemorates the birth of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism. It is believed that he was born on Vaisakhi Day during Karthi Maas. The day is celebrated with great religious fervour and gaiety. Thousands of Sikh devotees throng gurudwaras to offer prayer on the occasion of Gurpurab.

All the gurdwaras will be decorated with flowers and lit with lights. Hymns will be rendered at the holy shrine to mark the occasion. On this day several delicacies including Bajra and Aloo Parantha, Sindhi Dal, Chole Pulao, Kada Prashad, Matar Ki Kheer, Gajar Aur Khajur ka halwa will be prepared and served to the near and dear ones.
