The five-day festival begins on the day when Goddess Lakshmi was born and hence during Diwali, lamps will be placed outside the house to welcome goddess Lakshmi and to seek her divine blessings. People start the preparations for the festival days in advance by cleaning the house and painting it. They purchase new clothes for the festival and prepare sweet delicacies like Dehrori, Jalebi, Petha, Rakhia Badi and so on.
