Bank Holidays in Jharkhand during October

All the banks in Jharkhand will remain closed on the above-mentioned days. The banks will not perform the usual functioning these days. All the banks including Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited, Punjab National Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and Bank of Baroda will remain closed during the holidays.

Mahalaya: This period of Mahalya is followed in the Hindu calendar which lasts for 16 days. During this period no auspicious ceremonies will be conducted as the period is dedicated to the ancestors when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors who are also referred to as Pitrus by offering food. The period falls in the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada and follows immediately a fortnight after Ganesh Chaturthi. As per Hinduism, the souls of three preceding generations (pitrus) reside in Pitriloka which is governed by Lord Yama, the god of death, who takes the soul of a dying person from earth to Pitriloka and when a person of the next generation dies, then the first generation shifts to heaven and thus unites with God. So Shraddha offerings will be given to only three previous generations in Pitriloka who are given Shraddha rites.

Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: It is a National holiday. It marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He is considered the father of the nation. The day will be marked by prayer services and tributes to the Gandhi Memorial situated in New Delhi.

He was an Indian activist who lead the Indian Independence Movement against the colonial British rule in India. The United Nations has declared October 2, the birthday of Gandhi to be observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.

Maha Ashtami: It is a Hindu festival. It is celebrated as a part of the Navratri festival on a yearly basis. It is celebrated as a triumph of Lord Rama over Ravana. Ram Lila will be enacted during the nine days of Navratri, across many places in the state.
